Foam Systems

Limitation of special fire hazards via foam admixture

Foam systems are widely used in the petrochemical industry and in fuel, propellant, or hazardous material storage. The extinguishing foam consists of the components water, foam, and air. Mixing water with the foaming agent first results in a liquid foam solution.

In the event of a fire, foam bubbles are produced with the help of air. This increases the volume and gives it better extinguishing abilities.

Depending on the composition of the foaming agent used and the applied extinguishing technology, they are divided into heavy, medium, and lightweight foam systems.

Compared to the liquid phase, heavy foams have a 1 to 20-fold volume, medium foams a 20 to 200-fold volume, and light foams a 200 to 1000-fold volume.
